Neil Island is Andaman’s rustic masterpiece.

Neil Island belongs to the Ritchie’s archipelago of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Located 36 km from the capital, Port Blair, it is best suited for those who want to spend a relaxed time on long deserted beaches. You can reach Neil by hopping onto a ferry from Havelock Island.

Locals say Neil Island is what Havelock used to be. It’s still hidden, it’s quiet and tranquil and it is exceptionally beautiful. Out of the many things to do in Neil Island, our personal favorite is slowly exploring its many beaches. And maybe then take a dive or two!

Suitable for nature enthusiasts and adventure junkies, Neil has a thick jungle near Sitapur and some shorter paths near Bharatpur Beach and Laxmanpur. A large part of jungles here is reserved and protected.

You get to see different types of jungle fruits, some of which you can taste and some, due to their poisonous effects, well, you cannot. 4. Snorkeling

If you ask us what is the one thing to do in Neil Island that you simply shouldn’t miss, we’d say its snorkelling in the ice-blue waters of Neil. Cheaper than diving, and similar fun.

Lakshmanpur Beach offers the best snorkeling on the island with the largest variety of sea life. Bharatpur Beach offers great visibility and lots of colorful fish along the S-shaped coral reef, but you’ll need to swim further out to reach the best points with remaining corals.

At Ramnagar Beach, you’ll need to walk for at least 500 meters to reach the coral reef in deeper waters as at low tide, swimming is not really possible. The entire bay is nice for snorkeling as there are lots of different fish and bits of new growing corals.

Snorkeling boat trips are possible, and the locals take you closer to the coral reefs with richer underwater life. Boats depart from Ramnagar Beach early in the morning every day. If you prefer snorkeling alone, almost every resort rents out snorkeling gear.

G2A Tips: Sunnier days will give you super-visibility underwater.
Snorkelling Sites: Bharatpur Beach, Lakshmanpur Beach & Ramnagar Beach,

Exploring the island involves cycling through charming villages, discovering coral reefs, enjoying tranquil beaches, and observing rich wildlife. Cycling stands out as a highly popular mode of transportation due to its speed, affordability, and constant availability. Nearly every resort can facilitate bicycle rentals; in cases where they don’t, bikes can be rented at the market or along the main road in Lakshampur near Tango resort. Prices vary based on the bike’s condition, ranging from Rs 50 per day for an older one to Rs 100 per day for a new and fully functional bike, with intermediate prices available.

8. Chill at a Beachside Shack

Ain’t a seaside shack experience a bucket list item on a island trip? So this too goes in our recommendations for the top things to do in Neil Island.

Neil Island invites you to a seaside shack experience, offering freshly caught seafood at friendly prices. Bharatpur Beach is your spot for this culinary adventure, where flavors dance on your plate. While you do get amazing, finger-licking delicacies and hydrating beverages like juices and coconut water, you don’t get any alcoholic beverages on a beach shack. You might have to go to inland bars for the same.
