Dolphin Resort
Govind Nagar, Havelock Island
About Dolphin Resort
One of the biggest resorts on the island, the government-run Dolphin Resort is located on what is probably the perfect spot on Beach No. 5 – one of the best beaches in Havelock Island with palm trees and manicured lawns, sunbeds and shades, this enormous resort is one of those rare ones that can actually have bungalows close to the beach.
They offer three categories of rooms, the best being the newer super deluxe bungalows – huge air conditioned rooms with a TV, a spacious bathroom and hot water. The Deluxe rooms are similar but smaller, and a great pick for the price. The Semi-Deluxe ones are the smallest with joint twin bungalows that share a balcony with a generous sit-out. The resort organises fishing, snorkelling, boat trips and arranges scuba diving with dive centres.
There is an Indian restaurant which serves a reasonably priced buffet for lunch and dinner, which is also available for outside guests. However, the only way to book a stay at the Dolphin Resort is through the Andaman Tourism office in Port Blair at least 2 months in advance with a 25% deposit payment. If you prefer concrete buildings and don’t mind the extra effort for booking, this resort undoubtedly offers the best value for money on the island.
Frequently asked questions
Do hotels in Andaman offer free Wi-Fi and mobile connectivity?
Basic Wi-Fi is available in most mid-range and luxury hotels, but internet speed can be slow, especially on islands like Havelock and Neil. Mobile connectivity is patchy outside Port Blair, with BSNL and Airtel being the most reliable.
Is it better to book hotels in advance or after reaching Andaman?
Advance booking is highly recommended, especially during peak season (December–March). Budget travelers might find walk-in options, but choices are limited and prices are higher last minute.
Can unmarried couples stay in hotels in Andaman?
Yes, most hotels in Andaman allow unmarried couples as long as both guests carry valid government-issued photo IDs. It's best to double-check policies for smaller homestays or lodges.
What are the check-in and check-out times in most hotels?
Most hotels in Andaman follow a 12:00 PM check-in and 10:00 AM check-out policy, but timings may vary. Some properties allow early check-in or late check-out based on availability.
Do hotels in Andaman accept digital payments and cards?
Yes, most hotels accept UPI, credit/debit cards, and cash. However, on remote islands, it’s wise to carry some cash, as internet outages may affect digital payment systems.
