Neil Island is Andaman’s rustic masterpiece.
Neil Island belongs to the Ritchie’s archipelago of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Located 36 km from the capital, Port Blair, it is best suited for those who want to spend a relaxed time on long deserted waterways. You can visit Neil Island by hopping onto a ferry from Havelock Island or Port Blair.
Locals say Neil Island is what Havelock used to be. It’s still hidden, it’s quiet and tranquil and it is one of the exceptionally beautiful places to visit in Andaman island. Out of the many things to do in Neil Island, our personal favorite is slowly exploring its many beaches including Laxmanpur Beach, Sitapur Beach and even a natural bridge like formation that is visible during low tides and reminds one of the famous Howrah Bridge in Kolkata. You can soak in the serenity of the waters and maybe then take a dive or two!

Neil Island makes a spectacular destination for those interested in trekking through lush jungles, unlike anything around Port Blair. A lesser known thing to do in the Andaman islands is trekking through the jungle which can make your visit really memorable.
Suitable for nature enthusiasts and adventure junkies, Neil Island has a thick jungle near Sitapur Beach and some shorter paths near Bharatpur Beach and Laxmanpur Beach in Neil Island. A large part of jungles here are reserved and protected.
You get to see different types of jungle fruits, some of which you can taste and some, due to their poisonous effects, well, you cannot. The jungle is home to many animals, particularly insects, snakes, large crabs, and wild birds. While Neil Island does not have any bigger wild animals such as deer, wild boar, or crocodiles. 4. Snorkeling
If you ask us what is the one thing to do in Neil Island that you simply shouldn’t miss, we’d say it’s snorkeling in the crystal clear waters. Neil Island offers great snorkeling options that are cheaper than diving, and equally fun. Also while all other islands of the Andaman archipelago offer snorkeling, there is something special about Neil Island that makes the experience very magical.
Lakshmanpur Beach offers the best snorkeling on the island with the largest variety of sea life. Bharatpur Beach offers great visibility and lots of colorful fish along the S-shaped coral reef, but you’ll need to swim further out to reach the best points with remaining corals. You may, unfortunately, spot few dead corals, which are bleached, in the waters owing to water pollution.
At Ramnagar Beach, you’ll need to walk for at least 500 meters to reach the deeper waters as at low tide, swimming is not really possible. The entire bay is nice for snorkeling as there are lots of different fish and bits of new growing corals.
Snorkeling boat trips are possible, and the locals take you closer to the reefs with richer underwater life. If you are afraid of snorkeling then you can try glass bottom boat rides that let you glimpse the fish underwater. Boats depart from the waterfront early in the morning every day. If you prefer snorkeling alone and have the experience for it then you can rent snorkeling gear from the local resorts of Neil Island.
Fee: Starts from INR 3500 – Book Now
G2A Tips: Sunnier days will give you super-visibility underwater.
