About Kala Pathar Beach
Kalapathar beach is a serene spot located at the far end of Havelock Island. The journey involves reaching Port Blair via flight and then taking a ferry to Havelock Island. Before heading to Havelock you can visit Cellular Jail in Port Blair as a stopover attraction. You can also reach Havelock via Neil Island but the journey will take you longer.
Kalapathar Beach is a long stretch of white sand with big black rocks beside the blue sea and gets its name from Kalapthar Village. It is situated on one corner of Havelock and is a continuation of beach No. 5. Head here to experience the laid-back life of the Andaman locals. This spot experiences large crowds during peak season because of its popularity. Kalapathar Beach is right there on the top beach list alongside Elephant Beach and Radhanagar Beach.
You can avoid the bustle by walking further to the South to find a more peaceful beach. There is a small lodging path through the green jungle, where once was an elephant training camp, but nowadays all you’ll find is a secluded beach.
How to Reach Kala pathar Beach?
Kala pathar Beach lies on the southeastern coast of Havelock and about 6.5 km from the Havelock jetty. It is in the route that you find most of the resorts and cafes. You can reach Kala pathar Beach by hiring a cab, auto, or 2-wheeler (rental bikes). Click here to book your two-wheeler ride safely and efficiently with us. It is easier to travel to/from in the same vehicle as you may not find transport to bring you back from there. The route to Kalapathar beach is picturesque.
Things To Do At Kalapathar Beach
Silky white sands, turquoise-colored waters, and bioluminescent plankton are what make this a truly beautiful beach. There are some must-visits in and around Kalapathar Beach that you must see. These include:
- Enjoy a leisurely picnic but make sure to throw your litter in the trash bins placed on the island.
- You can sunbathe here or simply laze on wooden chairs placed under umbrellas.
- You can explore Kalapathar lighthouse for panoramic views of the beach.
- You can swim here, the crystal-clear water and lack of waves will make you feel like you’re in a swimming pool.
- Witness a breathtaking sunrise, the vibrant hues reflecting off the turquoise waters make it a magical experience.
In season, locals sell fresh coconuts and mango juices, but there are no other facilities apart from a few tea and snack stalls. So it’s best to carry food to munch on as you sip on the local coconut water. We also recommend carrying a few reusable water bottles to stay hydrated. Your other option is to purchase a 2-litre water bottle. This is because of the strict conservation policies in place across the Andamans.
