About Wandoor Beach

Wandoor Beach in Port Blair is where golden sands, swaying trees, and endless blue waters come together to create a postcard-perfect setting. Just 45 minutes from Port Blair city centre, unlike the more crowded beaches in Andaman and Nicobar islands, Wandoor Beach is a peaceful spot, perfect for those who want to relax, soak in nature, and chase stunning sunsets.

What makes Wandoor Beach extra special? It’s not just a peaceful beach, it’s also the gateway to Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park, home to some of the most stunning islands and marine biodiversity in the region. Also, the old driftwood logs of the 2004 Tsunami scattered along the shore are nature’s artwork giving the beach a rustic, untouched beauty.

Best Time to Visit Wandoor Beach

The best time to visit Wandoor Beach in Port Blair is during the dry season, from November to April. During these months, the weather in Andaman and Nicobar Islands is pleasant, with cool sea breezes and clear skies, perfect for relaxing at the beach. The monsoon season, from May to October, brings heavy rains to the Andaman Islands, making it less ideal for visitors. However, if you prefer fewer crowds and don’t mind occasional showers, the off-season can also offer a peaceful experience here.

Tip: Try to visit during sunset for a magical experience, the sky transforms into stunning hues, creating a breathtaking view.

Things to Do in and Around Wandoor Beach

1. Watch a Magical Sunset

Just like Chidiya Tapu Beach, Wandoor Beach in Port Blair is also famous for its breathtaking sunsets. As the sky turns shades of purple and orange, the scenic beauty of the place makes it feel straight out of a movie, with the nearby islands of Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park adding to the vibes. The old driftwood logs and fallen tropical trees of the 2004 tsunami look like nature’s own seating arrangement, perfect for settling in and watching the day fade away. Grab a cup of chai from the food stalls on the beach, find your spot, and soak in the moment.

2. Relax by the Beach

Wandoor’s long stretches of golden sand are made for lazy afternoons. Whether you want to sunbathe, take a romantic stroll with your loved one, or just pack a picnic, this beach in Port Blair has you covered. Post-lunch is the best time to head here, find a shady spot under the towering trees, spread out a blanket, and enjoy your favourite munchies. No need to rush, just relax and leave after sunset when the sky puts on its best show.

Note: We don’t recommend Swimming due to saltwater crocodile sightings. Also, avoid staying after dark.

3. Discover the Hidden Gem – New Wandoor Beach

Just 6 km before Wandoor Beach, there’s a secret spot only the locals know – New Wandoor Beach (a.k.a North Wandoor Beach). This secluded beach is rarely visited by tourists, making it a peaceful place. With tiny islands dotting the horizon, this spot is great for photoshoots and anyone looking for a quiet, cinematic beach vibe. Spend an hour or two here before heading to Wandoor Beach for sunset.

4. Take a Boat to Jolly Buoy Island

A short boat ride from Wandoor Beach takes you to Jolly Buoy Island, an untouched paradise of Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park. This place is heaven for snorkelers and divers, with its Beautiful coral reefs, colorful fish, and crystal-clear waters. Since the island is part of a protected zone, tourist access is limited, there are no accommodations, and it’s only open for day trips from Wandoor Jetty.

Note: Jolly Buoy Island is open only six months a year. If you’re visiting during the off-season, head to Red Skin Island instead, it offers a similar experience and is also part of Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Since these are protected areas, you’ll need to get permits and tickets at least two days before your trip to Jolly Buoy or Red Skin Island.
