About Karmatang Beach
Karmatang Beach is one of the most peaceful and spacious beaches in Middle Andaman, located around 12 km from Mayabunder town. Known for its long grey-sand shoreline, shallow waters, turtle nesting activity, and dense tree cover, the beach feels calm and far less commercial compared to popular beaches in South Andaman.
The beach is maintained as an eco-friendly tourism spot with facilities like watchtowers, resting chairs, toilets, changing rooms, children play areas, and shaded picnic sections spread across the coastline. One of the main highlights here is the unique wooden watchtower built around tall trees overlooking the beach. Karmatang Beach is also known for its turtle nesting hatchery where sea turtle conservation activities take place during nesting season. Despite its beauty and good facilities, the beach usually remains crowd-free with mostly locals visiting during weekends and holidays.

Things to Do in Karmatang Beach
Karmatang Beach is more about relaxing, slow travel, and enjoying nature in a peaceful environment away from tourist crowds. The wide shoreline, turtle nesting activity, and shaded forest surroundings make it one of the most family-friendly beaches in Middle Andaman.
Relax at the Peaceful Beach
Karmatang Beach is extremely wide, spacious, and usually less crowded even during tourist season. The shallow shoreline, cool sea breeze, and tree-lined coast make it perfect for spending relaxed time near the sea.
The beach also has several resting chairs, shaded sitting areas, children play sections, and one of the most unique watchtowers in Middle Andaman built around three large trees overlooking the coastline.
Many visitors simply spend time walking along the beach, relaxing under the shade, enjoying the sea breeze, or sunbathing during quieter hours.
Enjoy Swimming & Beach Time

The beach is mostly visited by locals for relaxing and swimming because the crowd remains relatively low compared to South Andaman beaches. Toilets and changing rooms are also available near the beach area, making it convenient for families and longer visits.
Visitors should still check with the nearby counter or local staff about safer swimming zones before entering the water
Visit the Turtle Nesting Hatchery
Karmatang Beach is well known for turtle nesting and conservation activity managed by the forest department.
During nesting season, visitors can notice protected hatchery sections where turtle eggs are preserved safely before hatchlings are released into the sea. The hatchery area gives travellers a closer look into the conservation efforts happening in Middle Andaman.
Note: Since nesting depends completely on natural conditions, turtle sightings are never guaranteed.
Walk Through the Nature Trail
One of the underrated attractions at Karmatang Beach is the nature walking trail located near the beach area.
The trail stretches for around 870 metres through shaded forest sections and connects to another side of the beach. Along the route, visitors can spot ancient tropical trees, endemic birds during early morning hours, and educational signboards displaying local bird names and forest information.
The peaceful forest atmosphere makes the trail ideal for relaxed walks, photography, and family visits. Children especially tend to enjoy the nature trail experience
